Act As If

NOTE: we had some sound quality tech issues during this episode in terms of fade out. You will still be able to hear us clearly..

We tackled the 'Act as If' contradiction of modern belief and discuss why we all should take a community acting workshop.

1. Find the emotional root of your desire.

Identifying the emotion you want to feel is an important to the process of acting as if. Once you have identified the emotion you want to feel, move on to step two.

2. Be aware of the root emotion in all areas of your life.

Once you have identified the root emotion of what you really want, you can move on to the next step which is finding evidence that you already feel this emotion in your life.

So start feeling your root emotion now. As you project more of this emotion, your desire will draw closer to you as you start to feel the way you will feel when you have it.

Feeling the way you will feel when you get your desire is a powerful way to “act as if.”

3. Watch your reactivity

The first two items are “front end” things you can do to act as if, but this is what you can do on the “back end.”

Start to react to situations as if you are someone who already has what you want when the subject comes up.

Consider the following examples:

Would a person who has lots of money say “I can’t afford that?” when she saw something pricey she wanted? No, she would probably say something like “I’d love to get that!” – so you should too. Even if you can’t afford it, act as if you could.

Would a person who has a great relationship be jealous when her best friend gets engaged? No, instead she would probably be happy for her friend-so you should be too. Even if it feels a little weird, you can smile and say “good for you!”

Would a guy who had a great career complain about his job when he was asked about it? No, instead he would probably share all of the good things that were going on at his job-so you should too. Even if the bad outweighs the good, you can still choose to focus on the few things going right.

While these reactions might be unnatural at first ,with practice, they will become easier and in time, habitual. As they say, fake it ’till you make it.

Each time the subject comes up and you feel yourself reacting, ask yourself: “How would someone who has what I want react to this issue?”

So as you move forward, start to “act as if.” Instead of focusing directly on what you want and getting lost in the wanting, use these three steps to project the vibe of someone who already has what you want.

Remember, identify the root emotion you are trying to bring into your life. Then, feel this root emotion in the present to project more of it. At the same time, be aware of your reactions, and always be asking yourself how someone who has what you want would react.

  • 2. Adulting

    01:51:12
ADULTING: The practice of behaving in a way characteristic of a responsible adult, especially the accomplishment of mundane but necessary tasks. Urban Dictionary gives this as one definition: Post adolescence when the light in your eyes fade away and dies.A term made popular by and about millennials. This is a topic that could really go all kinds of ways so we picked one and that was so go over 20 things not taught in school. In this episode we talked about whether any of these should be taught in school or whether it's something parents should have been responsible for. We figured not quite half would probably be beneficial to have in the school system because of the huge important throughout life.So even though it's a list of things not taught in school, doesn't mean we think they should be and in some cases, the ones listed are in fact taught in school. So many are starting life with no idea about very basic things and without getting too serious in life, you don't want to be completely clueless either. So what would you add to this list? What do you think is essential adulting? You can join us on our Facebook page and if you enjoyed it please share and of course, continue the conversation...with your kids because you don't want them to have to go to one of those adulting schools do you?
  • 1. Legalizing Marijuana

    01:26:12
On October 17, 2018 recreational marijuana use will be legal in Canada. In the US, 9 states have made recreational marijuana legal. Medical marijuana is different. That's not what we're talking about in this episode. We talked about the PROS and CONS of legalizing it and it's a hot topic but no matter what side of the coin you fall on, it's a big issue that gets clouded by so many things and in this episode we make it clear that we're talking about the average user that uses it recreationally.Something we love to do is CREATE A POLL asking people whether or not they were in favor of legalization. We asked on our Facebook page and here's a screen shot of the results. So whether you agree or not with it being legalized we just ask you to continue the conversation...ask questions because you'll most likely learn something new about the topic or the people you're talking too. We'd love to hear from you too and remember NEW EPISODES DROP ON WEDNESDAYS!
