Personal Transformation

Season 2, Ep. 3

This episode of the Dr. Joe Galati Podcast spins a new light on the information we always try to share with our followers. For this program, I am being interviewed by my dear friend, Chuck Garcia. Chuck and I met in 1978, while students at Syracuse University. I followed a path to medicine, while Chuck followed a path the the business world and Wall Street.

Over the past several years, Chuck has shed his business suit to become a college professor, global speaker, and coach. He recently started a weekly radio program on 77WABC in NYC, and talks about the personal transformation people go through. I was honored to have been asked by Chuck to be interviewed a few weeks ago, and I am delighted to share this interview with all of my followers.

#Diabetes: Understanding the Risks

Season 2, Ep. 2

All about #Diabetes-but first we hear from Chuck Garcia, author and communication coach. Dr. Galati and Chuck were roommates at Syracuse University, and even back then, they both realized that they lived in a big world, full of opportunities. Tonight Chuck is kicking off his inaugural episode of his radio program on #77wabc, A Climb to the Top-Stories of Transformation.

In Season 2, Episode 2, Dr. Joe Galatii s joined by two experts in diabetes. Helen Yuan, Registered Dietitian, and Anthony Santos, who is a Nurse Practitioner with clinical experience in diabetes. Both work with Dr. Galati at Liver Specialist of Texas.

In America, 30.3 million Americans, or 9.4% of the population, have diabetes. 1.5 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes every year, and 84.1 million Americans age 18 and older have prediabetes. Clearly, diabetes affects a lot of Americans.

The complications of diabetes are devastating. They include premature cardiovascular disease (stroke and heart attack), kidney failure needing dialysis, fatty liverwhich can lead to cirrhosis, blindness, and the need for amputations. The financial and emotional cost of diabetes is tremendous.

The interview helps to shed light for all those that listen, and it's our hope that we can be impactful and make a change.

A Conversation with Ed Henry about Transplant

Season 1, Ep. 15

This past week, I had the great honor to speak with Ed Henry, Chief National Correspondent for Fox News Channel, about his recent live liver donation for his sister, who was in need of a liver transplant. This past July, Ed announced on Fox and Friends that he would be donating a portion of his liver, to be implanted into his sister who was currently awaiting a liver transplant for complications of end-stage liver disease. Ed reported that his sister is doing well post operatively, and that he has recovered as well without any complications. When Ed announced his decision to help his sister, I was asked to appear with Ed to explain what he might experience with the surgery. That broadcast is posted here.

Currently, about 30% of all those waiting for a liver transplant do not survive the wait due to organ shortages. More needs to be done with public education to increase donation of all organs including liver, heart, lung, kidney, and pancreas. Additionally, a single tissue donation can help up to 70 individuals. This story with Ed and his sister Colleen, has increased both the discussion about organ donation and transplant, hopefully starting a trend of greater awareness and understanding. On this podcast, Ed opens up about this transplant experience, and answers questions about transplant, that will encourage everyone to look at organ donation and transplant in a different, more positive light moving forward.

Also on this episode is Kelly Perdue, President and CEO of The Living Bank, and organization based in Houston, dedicated to liver organ donation.

Make sure you share your decision to be an organ donor with your family.

Increasing #ColonCancer Rates: What Up with That?

Season 1, Ep. 13

For the Labor Day episode of The Dr. Joe Galati Podcast, we are discussing some key health topics. Dr. Galati reviews 4 strategies for weight loss, including getting more sleep, high-intensity exercise, and more dietary fiber. These simple steps will lead to improved health.

Unfortunately, colon cancer rates in young men is on the rise. It is felt to be partially related to the food we eat (or the foods we are NOT eating). As a result, screening for #coloncancer is not starting at age 45 (not 50 as it has been for decades).

Lentils are a super food. Dr. Joe Galati discusses a new recipe he tried-and loved it (even his wife was raving about it!).

Lastly, vaping is not good for you.

Visit Dr. Galati at his website, send him an e-mail, and sign-up for a free audio chapter of his new book.

I Have a Problem with UnTuckit Shirts

Season 1, Ep. 12

Obesity is the #1 public health concern we face in America. With 75% of adults overweight or obese, this is no small problem. This damaging obesity is the belly fat around the mid-section, which triggers inflammation and tissue damage throughout the body, including the heart and liver.

The untucked shirt movement, which doesn't even look that good from a fashion standpoint, is a cover-up for the expanding girths we are facing. Instead of realizing your clothes are getting tight (due to obesity), and plan to cut down what you're eating and exercise more, the only change is to get clothes that are designed to cover the problem-your gut.

We cannot simply hide the expanding waistline with a cleverly tailored shirt. Resist the untucked movement. Push away from the table, exercise more, and visit your healthcare team. It's that important.
